Geometry Games for Kids
Identify 2D and 3D shapes, calculate perimeter and area, and explore geometric properties and relationships.
About Geometry
Geometry is the study of shapes, spatial relationships, and measurement. Our geometry games help children develop spatial reasoning, identify and classify shapes by their properties, and understand measurement concepts including length, area, perimeter, and volume. These skills are not only essential for mathematics but also for many STEM careers including engineering, architecture, and design.
Developing Spatial Reasoning
Spatial reasoning - the ability to mentally manipulate objects and visualize spatial relationships - is a critical cognitive skill that develops through geometry instruction. Our games develop spatial reasoning through activities involving shape composition, decomposition, transformation, and visualization. These skills transfer to many areas including puzzle solving, map reading, and understanding diagrams in science and engineering.
Classifying Shapes by Properties
Geometry instruction progresses from identifying shapes by appearance to classifying them by properties. Children learn that a square is a special rectangle with equal sides, that all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares, and that shapes can be classified hierarchically. Our games develop this sophisticated thinking through sorting activities and property-based identification.
Measurement as Applied Geometry
Measurement applies geometric concepts to quantify attributes of objects. Our games develop measurement skills including length, area, perimeter, volume, and angle measurement. Children learn to select appropriate units and tools, perform measurements accurately, and apply measurement to real-world problems. These skills are essential for everyday life and many careers.
